The invincible goal, linesman flunks it big time in the first game

Greece may have won the European Championship in 2004 but 6 years on, the team is still almost similar to the one that shocked the world. Some of the older personnels may have moved on but there are hardly any recognisable world class player in the side. Although the same could also be said of the South Korean side. Not in terms of age but in terms of the quality of the side. However, I believe the Asian side holds the upper-hand in this encounter. It will be tight but I fully expect Korea to nick it by a solitary goal.

With the incumbent World Player of the Year in their ranks, Argentina are one of the favourites to go all the way in the tournament. Lionel Messi, together with Carlos Tevez and Gonzalo Higuan will form a fearsome front 3 that could very easily tear their opposition apart. Nigeria have not really move up in the footballing chain since their first finals in USA’94. Much will be depended on Joseph Yobo to hold the fort at the back while Obafemi Martins will spearhead their attacks. Fairly straight forward result here. Expect an Argentina win here, winning margin are the only food for thought here.

Despite losing annointed captain, Rio Ferdinand just a week before their first game, there should still be enough quality for Fabio Capello’s men to make a mark in this competition. Wayne Rooney’s performance alone could decide whether England wins the game or not. The new balls introduced in the competition could also suit the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, who both possess powerful strikes from long range. Quite a number of USA players are playing in the current English Premier League. Which would mean that they are familiar with the England’s style of play as well as those individual tendencies. However, knowing and being to react to it, is two different matter. Landon Donovan, Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey and Jonathan Spector will have to ensure no lost messages when explaining the virtues of each and every English players to their team mates. Like the Argentina game, I also expect the favourite to win this game.
