New design from Nike

Last Friday, I was invited by Nike to attend a media briefing on their latest project. Nike are launching their new football boots and in-line with that, are hosting the Elite Training Live Camp. 60 young aspiring, school-going footballers took part in the training drills that included Nike Elite Training 2.0 program, adorned with the latest footwear from Nike.

This is part of Nike’s commitment to develop grassroots football within Malaysia. The Elite Training Live Camp was conducted to provide a complete, premium football training experience to enable skilled and committed youth footballers to fulfil their potential. To make the experience more personal, Nike also invited 2 current national players with the U-23 side, to share their experience with the youngsters. Both are part of the Harimau Muda squad that competed in the Singapore League this season.

Forward, Syahrul Aswari recalled a motivational incident during the SEA Games last year. He said, “Fear was something we all felt in the Games last year. We entered the final but had to travel to the stadium with maximum security protection as the local Indonesian supporters were bent on making us as uncomfortable as they can. Our bus were shaking from side to side and it was scary. However, that made our resolve even stronger, to beat them in their home ground and thankfully, we did it”.

As for midfielder, Wan Zaharul, he spoke about how footballers need to adapt to situations and not be affected by differences. He said, “I was with the team in Slovakia when we played in their league. We’ve never had cold weather here in Malaysia, therefore it was an altogether different experience playing in the cold for the first time. We learnt from the coach that different playing method and preparation are needed in those type of weather compared to what we normally experienced. We just have to learn and adapt”.

The All Conditions Control (ACC) boots are designed to excel in both the dry and wet conditions. ACC technology allows the boot’s surface to maintain the same level of friction, touch and control on the ball in both conditions. The ACC benefit is created by a special treatment during the development of the upper materials to deliver a consistent feel on the ball at all times. ACC ensures the surface of the boot upper, to deliver consistent friction between boot and ball in wet weather conditions, allowing the player an assured touch similar to the fell of the ball in dry conditions. The sight took in many opinions from professional footballers including Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta. The 4 designs that were displayed are as follows;
